Athletics Endowment Program

The cost of higher education nationwide has increased dramatically in recent years, which has made private support vital. In order to address rising scholarship costs for its student-athletes, UCLA has established the Bruin Legacy Endowment program.

Currently, a full scholarship at UCLA costs approximately $23,000 for a California resident. By participating in the Bruin Legacy Endowment Fund, donors may create an endowment that will help fund a scholarship for one student-athlete on a Bruin team of their choice each year.

All endowed scholarships may be paid over a five-year period. When a perpetual athletic scholarship is established at UCLA, an endowment fund is created. The fund is invested and annual scholarships are then given to a student-athlete from the interest accrued from the fund (the current payout rate is 5%). The remaining portion, or principle, is reinvested, enabling the scholarship to grow to offset inflation and rising tuition costs.

During the years in which a pledge is being paid, the donor will receive Bruin Legacy benefits. Perhaps the greatest benefit is being assigned a UCLA student-athlete each year and having the opportunity to see your investment in action.

Your generous gift to UCLA in the form of an endowed scholarship will establish your legacy for future generations at UCLA. To provide greater opportunities for Bruins to participate in this tradition, three prominent donor categories have been created:

  • Individual Student-Athlete Scholarship Endowment ($500,000)
    • Endowment goes toward annual costs associated with one student-athlete's in-state tuition, fees, room and board, books and supplies, transportation and miscellaneous expenses
    • Annual payout - $25,000
  • Team Scholarship Endowment ($250,000)
    • Endowment goes toward annual cost of room and board for one student-athlete
    • Annual payout - $12,500
  • Quarter Scholarship Endowment ($125,000)
    • Endowment goes toward annual registration fees for one student-athlete
    • Annual payout - $6,250
