Men's Volleyball Team Finishes Second in Calgary Tournament

Naeve earns all-tournament honors; Bruins finish 2-2.

The UCLA men's volleyball team finished second and posted a 2-2 record in the Husky Dino Cup, hosted by the University of Calgary over the weekend.

The Bruins defeated MPSF foe Pacific 3-1 and Canadian powerhouse Alberta 3-0 on Friday, but lost twice in four games to tournament champion Calgary.

In Saturday's championship, Calgary defeated UCLA 29-27, 31-33, 25-21, 27-25 before 3,470 fans.

The Dinos hit .352 for the match and served 10 aces, while out-blocking the Bruins 15-10. Outside hitters Bill Byma (18 kills, .571) and Dennis Shukov (12 kills, .241) led Calgary.

Junior Matt Komer led the Bruins with 13 kills (.276), followed by sophomore Cameron Mount's 11 kills (.261). Three-time All-American Adam Naeve spiked 10 kills (.130), served four aces and added eight blocks on his way to earning all-tournament team honors. Sophomore setter Rich Nelson, who also earned all-tournament honors, led the Bruins with 11 digs in the championship match.

The Bruins will compete in the Long Beach State Tournament Fri., Oct. 27.
